Gunton Park

Selected Projects

Gunton Park, Norfolk, England
Twenty years ago, Gunton Park had been in arable use for decades, with the original parkland habitats largely destroyed and open-grown park trees untended. This was a matter of major concern to Kit Martin and his partners Ivor Braka and Charles Harbord-Hamond; who were determined to reverse the decline of the historic parkland, and engaged James Ellis to re-establish the parkland habitat, reintroduce a world class deer herd and subsequently manage it according to ecologically-sustainable and market-led principles.

Since its establishment, the Gunton deer herd has provided breeding stock to over 40 existing and new herds in the UK, continental Europe and New Zealand; with an enviable record in increasing bodyweight and antler size in both red and fallow deer.

A winner of the 2007
Country Life/Savills 'Genius of the Place' Award; today, Gunton provides a model for landscape restoration, with an internationally recognised deer herd of exceptional quality and ground-breaking sustainable parkland management techniques.
